Every human being and animal experiences anxiety. It is part of our survival system. It is a natural alert that something isn’t right or needs our immediate attention. However, according to the National Institutes of Health there are over 40 million adults who suffer or are learning how to manage an anxiety disorder. About 25% of adolescents aged 13-18 have an anxiety disorder.
Anxiety can become overwhelming and negatively affect a person’s daily life. Anxiety can involve excessive worry, racing thoughts, restlessness, panic attacks, disrupted sleep, depression, irritability, headaches, as well as physical symptoms. When someone is unable to manage anxiety it can diminish all areas of a person’s life, this includes relationships, family, work, and spiritual.
In counseling a person can learn more about anxiety, sort through the experience the person is having with anxiety, and learn how to manage it. The therapist will guide the person in learning, practicing, and obtaining coping skills, tools, and strategies to promote healthy living and restore functioning.
If you are concerned about how anxiety is interfering with your life; schedule an appointment to discuss your concerns and we can work together to identify next steps.
